The HASL Lothian & Borders League in conjunction with Edinburgh Athletic Club (EAC) has been held at Meadowbank Stadium Edinburgh. The event has been sponsored by HASL and Sportsmatch. 

Sponsorship from HASL and Sportsmatch has meant that Edinburgh Athletic Club has been able to hold the event which in turn has created the opportunity to invite all young athletes from Lothian & Borders areas to participate.

Bill Walker (Head Coach) for Edinburgh Athletic said the following:

“Having support from HASL and Sportsmatch has meant that we can take Edinburgh Athletic Club to new levels and continue to develop the club and organize events which will help provide the “Stepping Stone” needed to support, develop and encourage youngsters participate in competitions on grass roots level."

From running events like this we are certain that quite a number of participants will go on to represent Scotland & Great Britain in future and become our new stars at  sporting events such as Common Wealth Games and Olympic Games.

SPORTSMATCH is a Scottish Executive funded scheme, managed by sportscotland. It was set up to encourage the business community to sponsor sport at grass roots level. The scheme acts as an incentive by offering to match the sponsorship on a £ for £ basis and aims to support sponsored projects between £500 and £10,000, which demonstrate clear sports development objectives I.e. where the project encourages participation at community level, especially youth groups.  We believe along with SPORTSMATCH that sponsorship should be seen as an effective business activity which results in positive experiences.
